This painting depicts the Pu'uo'o Vent on the Big Island of Hawaii. Unlike the Kilauea Caldera that can be seen from the Jaggar Museum in Volcano NP, the Pu'uo'o vent is far away from any viewing site and is the one that is constantly creating new land on Hawaii. Should you go see the lava flowing into the ocean, you would be witnessing the product of this vent.
